NO COMPARISON

Updated: Jul 1, 2022

“Dear you, don’t compare yourself to anyone. Your Unique Self is empowered, powerful, and unstoppable! Your uniqueness is what makes you incomparable! Don’t underestimate the beauty of just being you.”

- Stephanie Lahart

NO COMPARISON

The definition of compare is to view something in relation to another. We are all guilty of doing this at some point or time in life, comparing ourselves to another person, progress, or accomplishment.

As a young girl in elementary school, my stature was very skinny. Needless to say, I was teased very often by others, especially the boys. I will admit that this did not feel good, and I was very sad deep down inside. I remember looking at the other girls and wishing that I had their body shape, their eyes, their long black hair, their clothes but my brains because I was smart (smile). I loved my personality but not my physical appearance.

This nagging despairing thought lingered for years into my adult life. After bearing children, the comments that I would get from women were: "I hate that your body just bounces back after you have kids," "I hate your slim body; you can eat whatever you want and not gain a pound."

One day, it dawned on me that I was wrestling with a self-defeating thought for nothing. My stature was "too skinny" in my childhood, and in my adult life, my stature was "too slim," yet all the while, people were comparing themselves to me. Why did I feel as if I was not good enough in my physical appearance? I felt this way because I allowed others' opinions to cause me to dislike my physical uniqueness instead of embracing it.

I decided that there is no comparison in life worth discrediting myself and who I am. Making this decision was very powerful and liberating. I realized that my unique attributes contribute to the success of "me being me" and assist in self-awareness and knowing my relevance in this entity called life.

Embrace your uniqueness and know that there is no comparison when it comes to you being you!
